Editing services:

I love working with writers on their goals and projects. I take only a few clients per year, but if you are interested in my editorial services, please reach out by using my contact form.

I am most experienced at editing the following types of writing:

  • poetry (in a packet or a manuscript)

  • autobiography or memoir

  • non-fiction books with targeted audiences

  • essay (including but not limited to the college essays)

What you can expect:

  • 1/2 hour meetings before AND after project completion (more if needed)

  • one-page write-up at the end of our work together

  • tailored, specific feedback based on your writing and goals

  • recommendations on reading, writing, and next steps

Cost:

If you send me 10 pages of your work, I can gauge how long my edits will take and if it is copyediting or developmental editing.

Fees vary depending on the type of writing, length, and level of editing. To offer an example, for line or copy edits, I average 8-10 pages per hour and charge $75-100 per hour. I then add the hourly rate for our meeting time of 2 half-hour sessions and my write-up of your work. So, the total cost may be $250-$300. For manuscripts and book-length projects, we can discuss a flat rate for the completed work.

Endorsements:

"Sara was a superb developmental editor. She was organized, thoughtful, listened carefully to my goals, and offered fresh perspectives. When the writing was confusing, she was able to intuit the meaning behind it and help me to tease out the most salient points of the manuscript in a tone that was friendly, positive, and clear — exactly what I wanted! Her feedback was a good balance of critical and encouraging. She was not only instrumental in bringing the book to a publishable level, she was also an advisor and supporter of my goals as a writer, and importantly, the book project as a whole. I would recommend her without reservation to assist with writing and editing at any level."
